The evolution of gaming is characterized by business thrillers, scandals, but above all innovations, and there were already tentative stumbles towards accessible video games in the 1950s. In this keynote speech, I would like to take you on a journey through time, highlight milestones in inclusive gaming and report on why the one-person shooter game Doom (1993) is playable today for gamers with visual impairments. Today, audio games are a niche of their own in the gaming sector and also have an interesting history themselves, dating back to the 1970s.
Speaker
Mano Grande (PWD Podcast)
Due to a progressive visual impairment, Mano was an inclusion child, but due to the provincial school situation in the 90s, inclusion did not materialize. Console gaming was a way to escape loneliness. Today’s online exchange and global gaming is something he would have wished for back then.
