Prof. Dr. Erdmuthe Meyer zu Bexten is a proven expert in the field of digital accessibility and inclusive higher education. She has been a professor of practical computer science at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) since 1996. As the founder and former director of the Center for Blind and Visually Impaired Students (BliZ) at THM, she has done pioneering work in the development of barrier-free study conditions.
In her current position as Hessian State Commissioner for Accessible IT and Digital Participation and as Head of the State Competence Center for Accessible IT (LBIT), she is a key driver of digital inclusion in the state of Hesse. Her many years of expertise are also reflected in her work as head of the examination board for IT specialists and IT system electronics technicians at the Giessen-Friedberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Her commitment to the development and implementation of barrier-free IT solutions is particularly noteworthy. As head of the enforcement and monitoring office for barrier-free information technology in the state of Hesse, she is actively involved in the practical implementation of digital accessibility. Her work combines academic expertise with practical application and political influence.
Under her leadership, numerous innovative projects have been initiated and implemented to promote digital inclusion at Hessian universities, which serve as a model for other educational institutions. Her holistic approach to designing barrier-free digital environments makes her a sought-after expert and driving force in the field of inclusive digitalization.
