Welcome to Level 3 – Rethinking mobility!

High-tech opens up completely new possibilities for blind and visually impaired people for more mobility and independence! On level 3 of SightCity, you can experience how differently smartphones can be used in everyday life – from innovative start-ups to established companies.

For example, objects can be recognised and assigned using a smartphone. There are also apps that provide information on local public transport – solutions that are already being used successfully in cities such as Halle an der Saale, Kiel and Saarbrücken.

Another key issue that often literally gets in the way of blind and visually impaired people is roadworks. How do I navigate safely through a construction site? How do I find my way across a so-called trench bridge, which is used for cable laying, for example? There are smart solutions for this too, which you can discover on site.

The core statement of the German Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired remains central: Existing aids such as floor indicators or traffic light signals must not be replaced, but rather usefully supplemented by digital technologies.

On level 3, you will have the opportunity to test these technologies live using models and try out for yourself how smartphones can make everyday life easier. You can also look forward to an exciting programme of presentations on the topic of mobility, which will provide further insights into current developments and innovative approaches.

We look forward to your visit and your feedback!
