Role-playing games, such as the famous “Dungeons and Dragons,” transport you to fantastical worlds filled with elves, dwarves, and, of course, dragons. And they’ve gained a lot of pop-cultural relevance in recent years. This blend of board game and improvisational theater is all about experiencing exciting adventures together with others. Each player takes control of their own character in a fantasy story narrated by a game master. Whether your plans succeed, however, is decided by fate in the form of dice. But no matter what happens, the story always continues. The gaming experience relies almost entirely on conversations between the game master and the players, which is what makes this hobby so accessible in my view. This brief introduction covers the role-playing hobby itself and the modifications to classic game systems that are useful for blind and visually impaired players.
