Venkatesh Chari is the CEO of Orbit Research, a company dedicated to developing breakthrough technologies to create innovative and affordable products for people who are blind and visually impaired. He has a background in Electrical Engineering and has worked for over 30 years in the development of technologies involved in mobile and assistive technology products, in roles spanning engineering, management and strategic marketing. At Orbit Research, he has led the development of the Orbit Reader 20, the world’s first affordable refreshable braille display, and the Graphiti Interactive Tactile Graphic Display, which provides access to tactile graphics for blind users. He has also published research in in the fields of speech and signal processing and contributed to assistive technology through patented inventions that form the basis for products such as the Graphiti, Orbit Reader braille displays, and the iBill talking banknote identifier.
