Help with the SightCity app
General information
The SightCity app is designed specifically for blind and visually impaired visitors.
It helps with preparation, during the trade show—whether from home or on-site—and after the event. It also makes it easier to find your way around Kap Europa.

Wi-Fi at Kap Europa is free. However, the speed of the public Wi-Fi is not particularly fast.
When launched, the app retrieves the latest data if it is more than 8 hours old. After that, the app no longer requires an internet connection.
Tip: It’s best to install and launch the app in advance—that way, it will download the latest data once you’re home.
App structure
The app is clearly divided into four main areas. You can access each area via the tabs at the bottom of the screen.
- Welcome: Here you will find all general information about SightCity: opening hours, address, a link to the visitor page for ticket registration, and much more.
- Scan: This area is only available on site at the fair. The app helps you navigate the building.
- Plan: Displays the events, exhibitors, and products you would like to visit.
- Search: A powerful feature that lets you search specifically for events, exhibitors, and products.
Tab – “Scan”
How it works
In 2025, we introduced an innovative navigation system. Each stand has a short branch off the main guide path. At that branch, there is a QR code on the floor. The app recognises this code and announces which stand it is and which exhibitors are located there. Double-tapping an exhibitor name displays their full details: name, address, products, and product categories.
In 2026, we are going a step further. QR codes are now also placed at junctions and crossings. This allows the app to determine your exact location. It can now announce which direction leads where – depending on how you are holding your phone. Where is the exit, where are the toilets, where are which stands.
This enables blind visitors to navigate Kap Europa independently.
How to use it
- Open the “Scan” tab (the first time, the app will ask for camera access – please allow it).
- Hold your smartphone at a slight downward angle in front of you.
- When the app recognises a code, your device will vibrate.
- The app immediately shows you which exhibitors are presenting at that stand.
- For more detailed information: with TalkBack or VoiceOver enabled, simply double-tap the exhibitor name you are interested in.
- At junctions and crossings, the app announces which direction leads where.
If a QR code is obscured by other visitors, do not hesitate to politely ask them to step aside for a moment.
Tab – “Search”
The “Search” tab displays events, exhibitors, and products. Use the search function and filters to find specific entries.
At the top, you can switch between the events, exhibitors, and products view. A text search field and a category filter are also available.
Category Filter
The category filter lets you narrow the display to specific topic areas:
- Activate the “Categories” switch at the top of the screen.
- Select the categories you are interested in.
- Confirm your selection with “Done”.
- To remove the filter later, select “All Categories” and confirm with “Done”.
This feature is especially useful if you are only interested in specific product groups or exhibitor areas. The categories are divided into five sections:
- General
- For Blind Users
- For Visually Impaired Users
- Services
- Mobility
Search Function
The text search covers different content depending on the selected view:
- For exhibitor search: names, stand numbers, and short descriptions
- For event search: titles and descriptions
- For product search: product names and all descriptive texts
Tip: Use precise but concise search terms for the best results. Overly long or complex search terms may cause relevant results to be missed.
Favourites and Planning
Events, exhibitors, and products can be bookmarked in two ways:
Favouriting
A favourited entry appears at the very top of the list on the “Search” tab – above all other entries. If you favourite DBSV, for example, it will appear at the top but also in its alphabetical position under “D”. Events, exhibitors, and products can all be favourited.
Planning
When an entry is set to “Plan”, it is copied to the “Plan” tab. This marks the event, exhibitor, or product as something you intend to visit.
How to Favourite or Plan an Entry
There are two ways – both work throughout the app:
- In the list: Swipe up or down on an entry to reveal the available actions.
- In the detail view: Open the entry – at the top you will find the buttons for favouriting and planning.
Tab – “Plan”
The “Plan” tab shows all the events, exhibitors, and products you intend to visit.
Events you have planned are shown at the top. Below them, exhibitors and products are listed, sorted by stand number.
At the top, you can reverse the sort order of stand numbers. This is useful if your tour of Kap Europa starts on the fourth floor rather than the first.
Once you have visited a product, exhibitor, or event, you can mark it as “Visited”. This gradually shortens your to-do list – while still keeping a record of everything you saw at the fair.
Entries can also be marked as “Already visited” even if they were not previously on the Plan tab. To do so, find the entry on the “Search” tab and set it to “Plan – already visited”.
Entries you have not yet visited are shown by default. Use the toggle switches at the top to also display already visited entries.
Switching between “still to visit” and “already visited” works on both the “Plan” tab and the “Search” tab – via the actions menu or the respective detail page.
Tip: It is worth adding products to your plan as well. This makes it easy to see at a glance which product at a given stand you are interested in. Products are displayed under their respective stand on the “Plan” tab.
