For many people, growing older while simultaneously coping with the challenges of a visual impairment—which often worsens over time—presents a unique challenge. Key message: Leading an exciting and fulfilling life in this situation requires, above all, a shift in perspective—from focusing on what is no longer possible to recognizing the opportunities and possibilities that are available. Drawing on personal experiences and examples from self-help practice, the speakers will explain their 10 theses, which outline the most important factors for the successful empowerment of older adults with visual impairments. This presentation is particularly relevant for people aged 60 and older who are in a phase of reorientation following a diagnosis, as well as their support network (family members, friends, etc.).
