Contents / Description
Personally affected and active as a volunteer. Board member of the PRO RETINA Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness. Since 2007, the non-profit foundation has invested over €5 million in research projects to promote research and save eyesight. If you take into account the founding phase from 1996 onwards, the figure rises to an impressive €6.2 million (as of October 2024). The aim is to promote research in such a way that progressive retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa (RP), macular degeneration (MD/AMD), choroideremia, and syndromic diseases (Usher syndrome, Bardet-Biedl syndrome, etc.) can be successfully treated. If left untreated, these diseases inevitably lead to vision loss—and even blindness.
